Poem of the Week

Seek ye first
By Aeryn Davis-Batiste

"God, are you there?"
I ask this so often
wondering if
He’s even listening to me.

I pray
and wait
and pray
seems like
an eternity

I’m sick and tired of struggling
and at times
giving up
seems to be the best bet.
But I remember grandma’s words,
"Child, God ain’t thru with you yet!"

Seek ye first the kingdom of God
and His Righteousness.

I was told that
doing this
would grant me
complete happiness.

Happiness beyond measure
unattainable in the physical form.
But just as precious
and miraculous
as a baby being born.

So when will this all happen?
I mean
when will my life
be complete?
Because right now all I see
is pain
and all I feel
is defeat

I’m tired of praying
and praying!
feels like its all in vain.
When will God bring me
a little sunshine
and take away
all this pain?

I remember grandma again saying

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness"

But isn’t that what I’ve been doing
while praying through my distress?

Seek him wholeheartedly
during joy and sorrow.
And let Him
worry about your
tomorrow

Live today for Him
as if it were your last!
And forget about the guilt
and mistakes of your past.

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness"

and all good things will be given to you.
Lean not unto your own understanding
for God knows what’s best for you!

Again, it is said

"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God"

and all good things will be given to thee.
It’s proven in the greatest
book ever written,
refer to
Matthew six
verse thirty three!

Happy Birthday, Mom!
By Doody

it's not
a diamond ring
it's not
a mink coat
it's not
anything expensive
just
a note I wrote

There's
no balloons
and no
birthday cake
it's definitely
not on time
so I guess
it's kinda late

But,
better late
than never
is what I always say
so in my best words
I'll try to say
Happy Birthday!

It's not
my arms
so I can't even
hug you
all it is
are my words
but
you can't hear
me say
I love you!

I'll do this
the best
that I can
and I hope
you can understand
that even though
you're a woman
you taught me
how to be a man!

Even though it
was tough
being a single
parent
You showed me
who I was
and brought out
my special talents

So, Mom
I love you...
I truly
love
you!

What if……
By 8-Trak

……. I told you are the most attractive woman i have ever seen;
would you say thank you or something obscene?

……..i asked your name and flashed you a smile;
would you do the same or think i was not worth your while?

……..i asked you if would consider dating a man like me; i can’t offer you fortune or fame but i would love you eternally.

……..i told you i have never been drunk or even tried drugs;
never refer to our women as bitches or consider myself a thug.

……..i told you i am the legacy of Dr. Martin l. King;
i’ve been dragged through the mud of discrimination/ segregation and thru God’s grace come out clean.

……..i told you the white man is not the devil and does not deserve condemnation;
for who stood in the doorways of injustice and tried to deny you your education?

……..i told you—that you are not being held down and you are not inferior;
if you want to know who is holding you back—you need only look in the mirror.

……..i told our skin tone may be different but God made us all the same;
we are created in his image—and in his image there is no shame.

…….i told you man love your woman—woman love your man;
for it’s the natural order of things ordained since time began.

……..i told you—you are descendents from great African nations;
descendents of great warriors, kings, queens and the beginning of all creation.

……..i said stand up tribes of Africa—Ashanti, Fulani, Maasai, Mandinka, Zulu—do not forsake your race;
it dwells in each us—here in this holy place.

Now look to your left and to your right;
behold your sister and your brother;
for we are together in this fight and we can’t win without each other.
