Program Description

  • The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program is designed to prepare graduates to meet the primary needs of individuals and families throughout the life span.

  • A major focus of the program is the preparation of Advanced Practice Nurses to meet the health care needs of underserved and culturally diverse populations.

  • Emphasis is placed on health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of acute, episodic and chronic conditions in individuals and families in all stages of the life cycle.

  • Graduates are eligible to take the certification examination offered by the American Nurses Association and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

  • Graduates find positions in a variety of settings such as rural health clinics, community health clinics centers, outpatient clinics, health departments, private practices offices, homeless shelters, chronic care facilities, schools, acute care and home care settings.

Curriculum

  • The curriculum is offered in two convenient formats to facilitate the working nurse’s return to school. The entire curriculum is offered online as well as on campus with an alternating weekend schedule. (Fri, Sat).

  • The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program can be completed in 15 months of full-time study or in 27 months of part-time study.

  •  The total FNP curriculum includes 45 semester hours of didactic instruction and 660 clock hours of clinical practice.
